About This Role

The Field Lead Technician (L3) is the senior technical authority on any TLX field deployment. You will direct multi-person crews executing structured cabling, fiber optic installation, and commissioning work inside live hyperscale and colocation data centers — environments where uptime is measured in nines and a single misstep carries seven-figure consequences.

You are not just a technician. You are the person the project manager calls when something unexpected surfaces at 2 AM. You read the room, read the documentation, and make the call. You develop the L1s and L2s on your crew into the next generation of mission-critical specialists, and you hold the quality bar that TLX's clients have come to expect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise field crews of 2–8 technicians on active data center installation projects
  • Perform and oversee expert-level fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing using OTDR and OLTS equipment
  • Serve as primary QA/QC authority — review all work before sign-off and maintain zero-defect documentation standards
  • Interpret and execute against cable maps, schematics, rack elevation drawings, and project specifications
  • Coordinate daily with project managers, general contractors, and client site representatives
  • Mentor and evaluate L1 and L2 technicians; provide structured feedback and on-the-job training
  • Manage field inventory, tool accountability, and site safety compliance
  • Escalate technical issues and document resolutions for institutional knowledge capture

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years data center, structured cabling, or field service experience
  • Expert-level fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing (OTDR & OLTS)
  • Experience leading installation teams in live, mission-critical environments
  • Ability to interpret cable maps, schematics, and project documentation
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • BICSI RCDD, RTPM, CompTIA Network+, or CCNA preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs

What You Get

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Per diem and travel reimbursement for project deployments
  • Access to the Coalition peer-endorsement network — your reputation travels with you
  • Structured career pathway: L3 → Field Supervisor → Project Lead
  • Exposure to large-scale data center projects
  • Credential support for BICSI, CompTIA, and other industry certifications
